Oregon Acrobatics and Tumbling Team Holds Press Conference After Teammate's Death
The University of Oregon Acrobatics and Tumbling team held their first press conference on Friday after the passing of one of their athletes this past Tuesday.
Freshman Lauren Jones died suddenly Tuesday afternoon, though not confirmed, to an outbreak of meningococcemia.
Junior Sydnee Walton said that she knew Jones since she was seven years-old in their town of Decatur, GA.
Walton and head coach Chelsea Shaw said that Jones was a remarkable person and would go out of her way to make people happy. She loved the program at UO and made it her goal to be a part of one of the best programs in the country.
"She did everything she could to get here," Walton said. "She wanted to be here full heartedly and she made her dream come true."
Walton plans on wearing Jones' 51 jersey on Saturday night for their meet against Concordia (Wisconsin) at Matthew Knight Arena. Other tributes are also planned to take place at the meet.
