Baseball: Oregon will Start Series Against Washington without Head Coach Horton
EUG, ORE - Oregon Baseball (23-18, 5-10) will commence its three game series against the University of Washington (21-16, 7-11) tonight, April 24th, at 7:00pm. However, the series will start off a little different for the Ducks than previous series. Head coach George Horton will not be present for the first two games at PK Park after being ejected from the series against USC. The Pac-12 Conference suspended Horton from coaching for two games for continuing to argue after being ejected from the game.
“I have a great staff and I’m sure it will be seamless. It’s going to kill me not to be there. I think we need all hands on deck when we are scuffling, which we are, and trying to get things going. I’m just one hand in many, but I get the title of head coach. I am frustrated I won’t be included on Friday and Saturday, but I can watch and listen,” said Horton.
Junior outfielder, Scott Heineman, will also be suspended from participating in tonight’s game after being ejected from Sunday’s game against USC. He had argued with an umpire for a checked-swing call against USC and was ejected from the game, which led to Horton’s ejection after the coach had come out of the dugout to argue the call.
Heineman said, “I am just accepting it. It is what it is. I will miss Friday, but I will be back out there on Saturday.”
Horton will look to fourth-year assistant coach, Mark Wasikowski, to lead the Ducks against the Huskies at PK Park. But, Horton will return as Head Coach for the Ducks on Sunday, April 26th.
